It’s not at all surprising when geniuses or very talented people cheat. It’s more of a case of attempting to fulfil one’s understanding of their own capabilities when they don’t do as well as that belief or are afraid of failure. Lots of really good gamers and athletes have been caught cheating before and although it doesn’t make it right, It’s just how it goes.

Sauske's fighting abilities didn't take that much of a hit, he was pretty much exceptional and strong even without it. Besides the rinnegan can be brought back with the help of Orochimaru, the guy prolly stashed away tons of sharingans, sauske could implant one of them and with the hashirama cells, yep ! there it is the rinnegan is back !!

Both took big nerfs and both are still among the strongest. That's the long story short. Naturo lost a huge chakra reserve, but still got Hashirama levels of chakra reserves, Ashura's chakra, SOSP mode, chakra fragments from all Bijuu (have access to their chakra affinities/techniques), OP sensory abilities, ability to sense evil intent, insane speed, instant self-heal ability(SOSP). Him questioning his ability as a Hokage was the funniest thing ever lmao. Meanwhile Sasuke lost broken Rinnegan abilities. Manipulating gravitational pull, absorbing chakra, changing places in the visual range instantly, space-time portals, not even mentioning other abilities he didn't touch yet. Also flame control was in his left eye so no more control over Amaterasu. But he still got Indra's chakra, Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu and Susano'o with Eternal Mangekyou.

naruto has to unlearn and re-learn most things tho, since he always had kuramas chakra since birth and relied on that. he currently has absolutely no idea what his limits are and how much stamina he has. not to mention that kurama was a valuable friend to him.
sasuke on the other hand learned how to fight and got pretty OP before getting a rinnegan, thus he should be able to adapt quickly while naruto would probably struggle quite a bit

That's a good point about him having to readapt to his new style without Kurama because of habits. But he still leveled up too much on every aspect to worry about getting too weak really. Sure he needs to run his own chakra now, but he mastered a S+ rank ninjutsu like Rasenshuriken at the age of 16 on his own chakra restricted to %4 and that was while holding back Kurama with rest %96. There is also fact that Naruto did steal and control bijuu chakra which is a whole different beast to deal with. Then he went even beyond, distrubing Kurama's chakra remotely through indirect contact to his chakra, to tens of thousands. So compared to managing his own chakra, his sense of chakra control is literally overkill. Also your point is valid on mentality, since he was Naruto's partner and they achieved so much together. Also Naruto is a hardworker and gains confidence from working hard and achieving so outside of that he may be even too humble about his strength. So it is understandable he feel like that after getting holed up in office in period of peace for so long. I agree with that though. I just said it was funny in technical POV.

There is still hope since he still got Indra's chakra. So he can awaken Rinnegan on his right eye. But it happening or not happening depends on the plot I guess.

Yes, he was almost going to kill boruto using a rasengan which was going to form in his hand behind boruto's back. If Amado hadn't come in at that time, he would have gone ahead with it and used it. As you said he must be hyperventilating at the thought of killing boruto but we also see him mustering all the courage with having to go ahead with it.

imo i don't think that's what happened but that's my view on the story maybe i'm wrong but that's how i understood the story, i don't believe naruto would've tried that he just finished saying that he won't let anything happen to boruto even giving up his life, he does't go back on his word and won't ever his character wasn't built like that maybe if it were sasuke i definitely would've believed that but we're talking abt naruto here, he isn't like that and i don't believe he ever will if it turns out i'm wrong then i'll accept that but i really don't see naruto going dark even if he isn't the mc anymore it goes against his character, well that's my take on the story but we'll see someone might ask kishimoto in an interview and if he answers then we'll see then
